Dr. Debajyoti Basak's academic journey began with a B.Sc. in Agriculture from Nagaland University, which was followed by a Master's and Doctorate in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal. Six years of research experience have been gained in the study of spice crops, particularly ginger and turmeric. The PhD research was focused on leaf spot caused by Colletotrichum capsici and leaf blotch from Taphrina maculens. Molecular characterization of genotypes was carried out using universal barcoding primers, and disease responses were validated through the AFLP technique, a novel approach given the lack of specific primers for these diseases. Proficiency has been developed in various statistical software for data analysis. Six research papers have been published, and the findings have been presented at several national and international conferences. Research expertise has been continuously expanded through participation in training programs and workshops at renowned institutions, and recognition was received in the form of the Young Researcher Award.
